The Linux kernel is the kernel that is the basis of Linux, as well as Android. It was created, starting in 1991, by Linus Torvalds.[1] When it was in version 0.12, he released it under the GNU license,[2] forming one of the best examples of free and open source software. As of February 2015, Linux kernel 4.0 is the latest preview version, while 3.19 is the latest stable version.[3]
